Labyss – World’s first memory storage company

“Labyss” was one of the Tai Kwun Spotlight programmes in 2024, conceived in Denmark by The Algorithmic Theatre. Commissioned by Tai Kwun, The Collective served as the local creative technology partner, elevating this groundbreaking production to new levels of absurdity crafting a unique AI-generated immersive experience for the audiences final reveal.

This project invites our audience to explore the nature of memory reconstruction and its authenticity. Are the memories and images reconfigured by AI true to the original experience, or do they transform into something entirely new?

In collaboration with French visual artist Frédéric Bussière, The Collective crafted a “memory room” that captivated Labyss’s Hong Kong audience. Utilizing artificial intelligence, this immersive experience allows attendees to visualize and recall memories, leaving them emotionally moved.

The Collective is delighted to not only localise the content, adopting Danish narratives into English and Cantonese for the Hong Kong context with local artist Vida Wu, but also to innovate in the way we use technology to enrich storytelling with visual artist Frédéric Bussière. By integrating Cantonese into the chatbot and granting it the autonomy to interpret and visualise memories, the creation deepens the narrative layers of the performance.
